There are two major reasons why you would want to test for COVID. One, because the borders are starting to open up again, and therefore you’d like to travel. Depending on the country you’re going to and coming from, you’ll need to ensure you have a negative PCR or rapid antigen test before entering.
And two, to keep your business operations running smoothly and securely. So while you may have already received your first or second second jab of the vaccine and countries are on a steady pace to vaccinating the population, there’s still a number of factors that we need to account for. This includes the fact that the variants are spreading quickly and the vaccines are not yet proven effective in coping with the variants. Meanwhile testing regularly, helps to manage costs, mitigate risks and build confidence amongst your customers and other key stakeholders.

What are the different types of COVID-19 Tests?
Molecular tests are faster and often more accurate than traditional tests for infectious diseases. They can detect virus proteins or genetic material. There are two types of molecular tests that are currently available to test for COVID-19 – Rapid Antigen Tests and PCR Tests. Supivaa Medical offers both types of tests from manufacturers in Asia, UK and Europe
Rapid Antigen Tests
Rapid Antigen tests can deliver results in as little as 15 minutes, allowing you to screen employees and customers, giving peace of mind to everyone about the safety of your environment. Rapid Antigen is now acceptable for travel for certain countries. For example, if you’re travelling to Canada to the US or the UK, rapid antigen testing is accepted. This said, before you travel be sure to check the requirements as rules can change suddenly.
Antigen testing is one where certain parts of the surface of the virus (usually surface proteins) collected from the nose, throat and sometimes saliva are targeted using substances that specifically bind with these virus particles. The test can be administered and analysed by a health professional at your location, making it convenient to test large groups at once.
Antigen tests are very good measures to quickly screen for COVID-19. It is also less expensive than other types of COVID-19 tests, making it a cost effective method of screening your workplace
PCR tests are more accurate than Antigen tests, but must be analyzed in a lab setting. The results can take several hours to several days to receive, depending on lab capabilities. PCR is widely accepted for travel purposes.
The PCR test looks for COVID-19 genetic material in swabs from the nose, throat and sometimes saliva. It is considered to be the most accurate test for detecting COVID-19. PCR Tests are considered the gold standard for testing. This said, they are also considerably more expensive, costing 3 times or more, as compared to antigen tests.
